Crafts Skills Academy is offering a range of studio based activities for young designers/ crafts people aged 14yrs and upwards to come in and explore a variety of Jewellery & Silversmithing techniques and learn about skilled crafts processes used in the industry today.

Hands on Projects include- Cutting/ Shaping/ Press-forming/ Casting/ Silver Soldering/Enamelling/ Mark making/ Fold forming/ Polishing/ Finishing. Further advanced techniques are also encouraged, such as stone setting and engraving.


The studio activities include a visual seminar by one of our established designer/ makers from industry about their creative portfolio and practice. You will be given an introduction into the Jewellery Design & Manufacturing Industry based in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. We will guide you through the design cycle to highlight the approaches needed to deign for a specific market place.Industry professionals will demonstrate jewellery making techniques for all students to explore during the project. Each student will produce a piece of jewellery to take away with them by the end of the session.Tools and materials are provided. (See examples below)

Project with Children from Bishop Challoner Secondary School, Kings Heath Birmingham. The final pieces made by the students were exhibited at the Jewellery Quarter Museum as part of the Art in the Heart, Re-generated Arts Project.
